About
A world so big, a cat so small…
“Arielle and her cat, Bast, are spending a pleasant afternoon in the forest.
Bast, being free from the usual four walls of their home, can’t stay in one place. He runs around, playing with everything that moves and with most things that don’t . In his haste to enjoy everything, he ends up getting away from Arielle.
He starts to hear her calling for him, but the forest is such an interesting place. There are so many things, so much space. Some little creatures challenge him. Bast pursues the little fellows. It feels great to run in the forest.
He is about to catch one of them. He jumps to grab it but he misses. He falls on top of some old stones. Something breaks under him. A cold breeze ruffles the trees chilling him to the bones. A smoke rises forming a shadow. The shadow gains form and then matter. Someone, something, hovers above him. Some ancient foul-smelling thing that nails him to the ground. Bast is unable to move.
Nearby, Arielle calls for him. The thing, the Spirit, turns around. As Arielle comes closer, the Spirit flies in her direction and envelops her. Bast hears the muffled screams of Arielle. They grow fainter as the spirit disappears in the forest.
Bast is alone. The sounds of the night emphasize that feeling.
Arielle is gone and it is his fault.
He realizes that the once pleasant forest has become a strange and dark place.
He starts running hoping to help her. He fears it is to late.”

And so it starts…

A Walk in the Dark is an indie game being developed for PC.
In this action platformer you play as a cat, Bast, running through a dark fantasy world. You’ll be running, jumping and sliding with smooth and precise controls designed to make you feel like a cat. But it wont be easy. In the dark you never know what lies in the shadows. In this dark journey you will face strange creatures and dangerous traps.

Features:
    * A story driven platformer set in a dark fantasy world.
    * Fluid controls and animations: play as a cat, move like one.
    * Challenging levels set in a dark, strange and dangerous world.
    * Gravity inversion mechanics that will test your skills and ability to adapt to new gameplay.
    * Beautiful original soundtrack by Cody Cook

Release date TBA – 2012

Gunpoint

Link

Informationen
Gunpoint is a stealth puzzle game that lets you rewire its levels to trick people.

You're a freelance spy, infiltrating high security buildings with subterfuge, gratuitous face-punching, and an unusual type of electronic sabotage. You can cross-link things like light switches and doors so that the guards unwittingly take out their own security systems, their colleagues, and even themselves. It's pretty funny.

How did you come up with the concept?

I feel like a lot of games are designed on the assumption that the player is stupid: a tester doesn’t have the intended experience, so I guess we’ve gotta force him to look at that spaceship crash, lock him in the room until the enemies are dead.

I wanted to make a game with the idea that the player might be smarter than me. Let him think of solutions that never occurred to me in hours of playtesting, and give him the tools to be more creative than I was when I designed this level.

I don’t think that testers are being stupid, I think they’re being defiant. And they’re defiant because the game isn’t letting them be creative or smart or funny, it’s trying to make them have a packaged experience.

So the Crosslink gadget, which lets you rewire any of the electrical things in a level, is my way of giving you some of the designer’s power. It’s almost like a level editor: I restrict some things to make sure it’s a challenge to complete, then I let you design how you want the level to work to achieve your objective. You can be clever, efficient, complicated, funny or cruel.

Chris Donlan has been playing Gunpoint, and gives it a lovely write up over at Eurogamer:
The interface is uncluttered and intuitive – you just drag beams of light from the object you want to act as a trigger towards the object you want that trigger to activate – and the whole system’s bristling with opportunities, especially when you start to factor in enemy AI.

Interessantes neues Spielprinzip.

Wink
