Auch wenn es schon einige Joystick to Keyboard Mapper gibt, z.B. JoyToKey oder XPadder, wurde J2K als Freeware entwickelt mit Benutzern von Front-Ends wie HyperSpin im Hinterkopf. Wenn man ein solches Front-End verwendet und bspw. DOS Games via DosBox per Gamepad oder Joystick gespielt werden sollen, dann ist häufig die Konfiguration zu wechseln, dies kann mit J2K sehr einfach durchgeführt werden.

- Erlaubt eine einfache und schnelle Einrichtung
- Um J2K mitzuteilen, welche Konfiguration verwendet werden soll, so kann J2K.exe mit dem Namen der Konfiguration jederzeit aufgerufen werden: "J2K.exe KONFIGNAME", insbesondere "J2K.exe Empty", um die Mappingfunktion abzuschalten
