August 06, 2013 [version 2.5 released]
Computer emulators have invaded
EmuCon! Are you crazy ??? edition. Biggest update ever ever ever ever.
So many things were changed in this project that it looks like a new one. The change log is HUGE. There are 61 systems in
EmuCon now and there is room to grow a little bit more.
If you are upgrading from
EmuCon v2.4.3 instead of a clean install, delete all files in emucon_dirgames folder, as they have changed. Not doing so,
EmuCon will crash. I recommend to delete emucon_direc_icons and emucon_dirimages folders to remove unused files.
I also recommend a backup of you current installation before attempting an update.
Your current settings for games folders, images folders and emulators selections will be updated to a clean install of
EmuCon v2.5... if you place your configured EmuCon.ini file from
EmuCon v2.4.3 in the new installation.
Go to the new Systems and Emulators section for a complete list of systems and the official supported emulators.
Important: Read the new .rtf docs in emucon_dirdocsspecial_rules folder for details and mandatory rules regarding a few computer emulators, specially
Java based emulators like JPCSP (Sony PSP) and JACE (Apple II).
For beginners... and those who just want to play games, all emulator parameters were carefully selected (and tested by me), so you won´t have to do anything other than:
1. select games folders
2. select emulators executables
3. (optional) select a virtual drive application to mount disc images on a virtual drive
4. (optional) select snapshots folders... if you want a preview screenshot of your games
5. create the games list
After doing that, you can start playing games right away. Modify emulators parameters later, if you wish. :)
Enough talk, here´s a summary of the hot stuff...
- Now you have four (4) emulators per system to choose from (emulators setup screen and games popup menu)
- New computer systems: Commodore
Amiga,
MSX / 2 / 2+ / Turbo-R,
Commodore 64 / 128 / VIC-20, Apple II, Apple IIGS, Atari 800/XL,
Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, Sega SC-3000,
Amstrad CPC
- New console systems: Famicon Disk System,
Sega Saturn, 3DO,
AmigaCD32, NEC
PC-FX, Neo-Geo CD, Arcadia 2001, Philips CD-i, Virtual Boy
- New handheld systems: Sony PSP, Tiger game.com
- Expanded systems... for the purists:
Game Boy split in 3: Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Super Game Boy
WonderSwan split in 2: WonderSwan and WonderSwan Color
Neo-Geo Pocket split in 2: Neo-Geo Pocket and Neo-Geo Pocket Color
Atari Jaguar: split in 2: Atari Jaguar and Atari Jaguar CD
- Media types expanded: cartridges, disc images, floppy disks, cassette tapes
- Added a second parameter for each media type. Useful for systems like
Amiga (switch between
Amiga 500 and
Amiga 1200 AGA chipset)
- Games folders are now separate by media type. You must place your games of different media in different folders
- Recursive games folders scan. You don´t need to add sub-folders anymore,
EmuCon scan them automatically
- Cartridge type auto-detection for Atari 800 emulators (based on the file size). Read special rules file for more details
- Load games with multiple floppy disks (
Amiga,
Commodore 64/128/VIC-20, Atari 800/XL, Apple II/IIGS,
Amstrad CPC). There are some rules that must be followed! Read special rules file for more details
- Better support for
MESS / UME emulators
- Massive update to emulator_parameters.ini file. I personally tested (almost) all supported emulators to ensure working parameters
- Official support for extra virtual drive utilities: Elby Virtual CloneDrive and Alcohol 120% (parameters stored in emulator_parameters.ini)
- Emulators selections, games folders settings and images folders settings are stored in separate .ini files to avoid data loss
- 7-Zip support. Mostly for
MESS / UME. Download 7z.dll or copy the same
DLL from
Emu Loader
- Optimizations and bug fixes everywhere
Read the change log for extensive details on what´s changed in
EmuCon v2.5. Have fun!
